Firedrakes Weyr

Whoever said Lightning and High Adventure don’t mix? Tara Michaels, student of Asiatic History and avid learner of Mongolian studies, is struck by lightning. What should have been a demonstration of horseback melee fighting for her classmates, turned into a fight for her life on the snow coated forests of Mongolia. Not only that, she discovers that she’s not only in the wrong place, but the wrong time. Literally.

Paired with a sinfully sensual Mongol warlord, will Tara be able to find out what destiny awaits her on the Steppes? Or, more importantly, will she be able to find her way home with her heart intact?

16th Century Mongolia and present day do not seem to have anything to do with each other but this sweeping panoramic tale involves traveling through time to prevent a cataclysmic catastrophe from destroying our modern world.

Tara Michaels is a Mongolian history buff and a re-enactor of ancient fighting techniques. When she was caught in the storm and the lightening hit, I didn’t know if she was alive or dead. Tara has endured so much already in her life with her parents throwing her out. I just wanted her to be well and happy. She finds herself thrown back in time to the Wolverine Clan in the middle of a battle that she basically singlehandedly wins for the clan.  Again, I cried for how much pain one person is left to endure as Tara is severely injured.

The story gets very complex with hunting a Chinese assassin from the present day who also has traveled back in time, fighting a Norse shaman, and saving the future first Dali Lama. Add to that an exceptional amount of present day minor characters that are reincarnated back to the past in animal forms and are able to communicate only with Tara about not only the past happenings but the present day ones as well.

I was so happy that Tara seemed to have found someone who cared for her in the form of Suren Arslan. He not only is tall, dark and sexy according to Tara but I found out later that he is the son of the Khan and warlord of the tribe. Suren cares for Tara and it showed in every touch he gave her. From his carrying her to his gentle kisses and the careful way he dressed and undressed Tara, his love was shown in his every move. I hoped that he would be the one to fill her life full of the love she deserved.

With Tara’s crazy parents trying to kill her, I loved how seamlessly the story moved back and forth from present to past. Each time Tara had to return to the future, I cried for what she left behind and for the pain she returned to.

There are many characters in this book, each with their own story and many which play parts in both past and future. I loved how Ms. Taylor dedicated research to a unique time period paid off as it pulled me into the beauty that is 16th century Mongolia. The clothing and yurts, the clans and their movements were described in such vivid detail; I felt that I was experiencing life with the Wolverine Clan.

Majestic Lion is an intense book that had my emotions running the gambit from tears to joy and hate to love and happiness. I know that this is one book I will be reading again.
